Year 8 Camp 2012

It’s the time of the year when the year 8 students at Pt England have to prepare themselves and pack for the last camp of the year.
There are now only 24 hours before we head down to Camp Ngaruawahia in Waikato
.

I have checked the weather forecast for Hamilton and it looks like there is going to be rain for most of the days that we are down there.

I am really excited but at the same time not. I say this because I am going to be excited because i’ll be with with all my friends, but then I am not excited because  I’ll be away for home. It is only three days but it is long to me. I will miss my family the most.

I really hope that the weather forecast is wrong, because I really want to go on a camp that is sunny and not raining and HOPEFULLY it would be a camp to remember.  :)

A big thanks to Athena for checking my work!!

Transition Day At Tamaki College

It was the time of the year when the year 8 students had to decide on what school they are going to. Well yesterday the year 8 students at Pt england school got the privilege to go over to Tamaki College to see how it feels to be in college.

On my own opinion, college is really different from primary and intermediate! I say this because it’s not like intermediate where we get put into one class for the whole year , in College, we move around, so we actually don't have our own class to leave our bags .

It was really cool yesterday, because we got to go to the Music class where Mr Telefoni  taught, Science, where we meet Mrs Smallwood, and our last class English. I found all the classes interesting but to be honest, the best class out of the three was music. Music was the best because we got to make our own rap and beats! Science was not that bad because we made Hokey Pokey and got to see who could make their helicopter go the furthest. Surprisingly , I found english the most not cool. It was cool , but not as cool as Music. In English we had to make a poem about our favourite animal. I picked the TIGER!!
Being at Tamaki College was awesome because I felt like I was treated like special guest. The prefects that took us were kind and actually looked after us. Ever since that day, I have been looking forward to next year!

Homelessness

This week, I have been reading about homelessness. On my own opinion, I think that nobody deserves to be left out on the streets with none of the resources needed to live like water, food, shelter etc.., and so do the students at Saint Andrews School Australia., teens and even old people on the roads with no money, or no home.
These students from St Andrew's School are helping Anglicare get ready for their annual Christmas appeal and some of the things they're sending off will go to  kids , teens and even old people on the roads with no money, or no home.

I think that St Andrews school is making the right choices by helping the homeless because everyone here has the right to live a normal and happy life.

Swimming Theory

Two days ago, Room 19 headed over to the netball courts where the nice warm pool waited for us. Unfortunately I did not swim because I forgot my togs, BUT we did learn about swimming, and what are the right things to do when you are in danger. Do you know what the “HUDDLE” is ??  Well the huddle is what you need to do to keep warm. To do the huddle you have to cross your hands over your chest and stay like that untill help comes.. You will soon start to feel warm.
The other thing that I have learnt while doing this activity is the “HELP”. The help is what you need to do when your in a group and want to get warm. Make a small circle with the smallest in the middle and hug each other really tight.

I found this really interesting because I never knew about these. I hope that one day when we are in danger, I can remember these two things, “The huddle and the Help”. I hope you learnt something from here as I have myself.

The Manaiakalani Film Festival

Yesterday afternoon was when the seniors at Pt England school headed over to the Sylvia Park cinemas to watch the manaiakalani film festival. It was a privilege going and watching different movies that other schools in the Manaiakalani had made. Room 19 ourselves had made our own movie which was From The Inside.

We travelled by bus to and from Sylvia pak, then had to walk to the cinemas inside the mall. The Sylvia Park Cinemas that we went to , had one of the biggest screens in the world. So it was quite big if you think about it.

As soon as we got off the bus we had to line up into our class lines, making sure that everyone was there. When everyone was settled we walked into the mall and straight down to the cinemas. When we got there it was dark. We walked in and there were other kids from different schools like Tamaki college, Tamaki Primary, St Pius X etc...

Our senior block took up nearly half of the seats but luckily there were plenty. We sat on the far side of the cinemas which sounds uncomfortable  , but it really didn’t matter where we sat because the screen was massive and we could see it from any angle. When everyone was settled the first clip came on, which was the “introducing film” for all the students who had come and watched the manaiakalani film festival. After the introducing and welcoming film had came on and was presented by a girl named Angelica, the lights went low and the presenters from other schools came on to present their movie.

It was really cool watching other classes movies. I found Tamaki colleges movie (One Direction ) and Pt England’s movie ( Silent Treatment) from room 19 was the best.

At the end of the day we watched about 10-15 movies!! It was awesome!!

Last Summer

What a nice sunny day it was, playing outside and watching uncle Koro doing his garden. I stood there and watched what he was doing because I wanted to be a great gardener like him. He called me over , I went to him and he showed me how to plant. I found it really interesting! He told me things about gardening like , when we have to water it and what is the process of making a plant grow,

Uncle Koro was my grandpa , but I prefer calling him uncle. I see my uncle Koro as my own father because we do everything together. He teaches me things and I teach him things that he doesn’t know.

After spending  like half an hour outside on the garden, my stomach started to rumble so went inside for a snack.
We ate some cookies with milk. It was yummy!! With our tummies full from all the cookies, we laid on the ground and digest! About 5-10 minutes later, we got up and uncle Koro said to me “ Come on kiddo, we got some plants to grow”. I was jumping with excitement because i couldn’t wait to see more. I could never get sick of uncle Koro’s teaching.

Making My Toy

This Term, the toy that I picked to make was the "Rubber Band Ball". I picked this toy because the person that I am giving my toy to loves bouncy things! It took me a week to complete this toy and now that it is finished , I think that it was worth the time making.
The materials I used to make this toy were : Rubber bands
, A little piece of paper

and that's about it. Here are the steps of how I made it,
Step1 : First you get a small piece of paper and you scrunch it up real small, making sure it is nice and round.
Step 2: Keep on adding rubber bands to the paper until it gets big.
Step 3 : When the ball is nice and big, you can test it.
If it works out well then you did a great job, and if it doesn't bounce at all , then hard luck, try again.
It is that simple to make an exciting toy with just rubber bands and paper.
At the end, you will end up with something similar to this.

My Favourite Toy

Here is my animation that I made showing my favourite toy. Hope yo enjoy!!

My favourite toy is the volley ball. It is sphere, with yellow and blue stripes. it is roughly about 20 cm long and 21.5 cm long.  It makes a good game and it is really cool to play with. It goes all over the place when I play with it, and goes up and over the net. It is a challenging toy because you have to make sure you hit it right, no too hard and not too soft. I like this toy better than most toys because you can use it for different games for example, netball , basketball, VOLLEY, etc.....
I think that this toy has powers as well, it can make us laugh but at the same time cry.  It makes us laugh by being so amazing and hitting other people, but at the same time makes the person that got hit cry. So I think it can be evil and kind at the same time.

The Relaxation Sensation!

Ahhhhhhhhhh was what I felt as soon as my head, back and feet hit the sand. It was a good feeling to lie down and relax after an exhausting walk to the beach with the girls!

It was the perfect time to go to the beach as the sun was out and the tide was in.  We were all exhausted from walking there , as it was really really hot!  But we managed to get there.
Relaxing in the sun was an amazing feeling! We laid there for a while but then it soon got a bit hot, I then asked the girls, “ You guys up for a swim ?” they answered “YEAH” so we then went and got change and headed over to the water. In line with text | Fixed position

We all walked together towards the ocean as the water was freezing cold and our bodies really hot. My friends were scared that someone might push them in! They were taking for ever so I just pushed them all down !! They screamed like they were going to die! They got up straight up and started splashing water to each other!
It was really fun!!

It was awesome hanging out with the girls. I soon then remembered that I put a volleyball in one of the girls bag , so I ran out and went and got it. I came back and told them to come play volley so they did. After about an hour of playing volley, we then stopped and went and got change into some dry clothes ready to go home.

As we were walking to the changing rooms, one of the girls stood on a glass. She fell down and started crying. We all then looked down at her feet  and there was a massive glass sticking out. We then panicked and called her mum. Minutes later her mother arrived to the beach, she then took my friend to the doctors.
Me and my friends were very worried! We soon then got a phone call from my friends mother that she was fine. It was a relief to hear that! It was getting dark so we then packed up all our stuff and headed home.

At the end of the day, someone ended up getting hurt but we did have lots of fun, We then walked down to my house and had some Ice Blocks to finish the day! :))

"Free Speech"

This week I have been reading and looking at why "Russia And Saudi May Block YouTube" On Monday, thousands of people took to the streets of Afghanistan where they set fire to houses, buildings and also cars.

It all started with an Anti Islam film that was produced in the USA that had been put up on you Tube, which Afghanistan's and many people over the world found offensive! This film has sparked violence all over the world!

Stomach Churning

Facing my fears was one of the hardest things for me, but I took the risk and hopped into the cart where I met a girl named athena. I said hello to her and asked her if it was her  first time on the ride, and she said “Yes”. It felt good to know that someone else is trying to face their fears!

We waited patiently in the cart until the ride started, we buckled our seatbelts on, making sure that it was tight so we do not fall out. After about 5 minutes, The man taking the roller coaster ride announced on the speaker to make sure we hold on tight and to enjoy the ride!

Finally the ride started, it started off slowly and as we kept on going further it went faster and faster. I then thought to myself “ WOW this ain't so bad after all!  The faster we went the more I enjoyed it! but as I looked to my right where Athena was sitting, I could see that she was not having fun at all! We were then about to come up to where we were at the highest point of the roller coaste, ready to scream our buts off as we come down! I Couldn’t wait till we got there!

Finally we got to the highest point of the roller coaster! the part that made me scared to come on this ride in the first place! As we got there I took a deep breth and wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww down we went!!  I was really enjoying myself when all you could hear was screaming coming from the side of my ear! I turned around and to my amazement it was athena looking like she was going cry! I then just blocked my ears, sat back and enjoyed my ride! Not soon after I looked away from athena, I turned back to look at her and there she was spewing up on the side of the cart, I was really disgusted! Our ride went up and down, all around and so did Athena's spew.
I then gave her a plastic bag to spew on instead of spewing on the side of the cart.

At the end of the day one person went home very angry because, well unfortunately the spew landed on her. Jay lee was the name of the angry girl who went home!
So the moral of this story is to don't go on the ride in the first place if you know you cant handle it.
PS: NEVER EAT BEFORE YOU GO ON A ROLLER COASTER!

Powerpuff girls lyrics

There once were three girls who lived in a hall.
One day they went to a powerpuff ball,
when they got there they were full of joy
And that was the end of the girls from the hall.

Olympic Sport Day!!

It  was a great way to end the week last week as our whole school came together and participated in different sports!!

We were all mixed up into different groups that had five year olds to 13 year olds students in it  to represent different countries!  There were more than 11 teams and one of those countries were Portugal! Portugal was the team that I lead and was officially the best (well to me)!

We started off from as soon as the first bell rang for school to start until the bell went for school to finish , so we obviously played through put the whole day! First thing we did when the bell rang for school to start was we headed over to the netball courts and all met up there. Standing in the front of everybody and looking at everyone sitting down was pretty freaky because I was used to the fact of sitting down and looking at my leader! We talked about some things then had a prayer to the Lord to help keep everyone safe and no one getting hurt!

After the prayer we then headed over to our first activity! Our first activity was pretty awesome. It was like netball mixed with water polo! it was awesome, I could see that everyone in my team was enjoying themselves. At the end, we ended up winning the game and got 5 points for good sportsmanship. There were 7 different activities left and already half of my team were already tired!

Moving on to the next event was even better! We got to learn how to play new games that we have never played before and even learnt some skills! As we were going to different groups time by time, the day got a lot hotter and we were having much fun!

At the end of the day I was really happy because I had lots of fun learning new games and challenging other teams! I think that my team did a great job because they always strived to succeed nd never gave up! I would love to have another sports like this because it is really fun and I hope the teachers will do this more often!

In room 19, We have been learning about different parts of the body. Our task was to find out information about the body. The part of the body I studied was the “SKIN” . I have been researching on the net to find out info about the skin and so far I have learnt many things. One of the things that I  have learnt is that every minute of the day, we lose about 30,000 to 40,000 dead skin cells off the surface of our skin!!! Thats really amazing!!
I also took a test about the skin and I have managed to get 9/10 as you can see on the image above. One important thing that I have learnt about the skin is that it is very special because the skin is what holds everything together inside our body!
If you want to find out more information about your body, click on the link below.

Second Hand Smoke

Here is a little something that you should know about smoking. Hope you enjoy!

Wednesday, September 5, 2012

The Dangers Of Smoking

The dangers of smoking can change the way the body works. Smoking can cause many bad things to happen for, instance lung cancer, emphysema and heart disease.

As soon as you become a smoker and you smoke nearly everyday, your body will start to change. The way you look, feel and act. You will start to get yellow teeth, bad breath, get smelly and yucky hair.  "Nicotine" that is found inside a cigarette is a highly addictive drug. When a person takes a cigarette all the nicotine travels through the body and up to the brain. As soon as it gets to the brain, the brain clicks (because it is the first time that they got this feeling) and cries for more!

70 out of 100%  of the people who smokes already know that smoking kills and can shorten their life. But the drug is too addictive that they can not help it but want more. Some people even take it just to feel normal.

I believe that it is better for all the nonsmokers to don’t even start in the first place because it would be very difficult to stop again.

Not So Bad After All

BAAAM!! went the clapper and off we went!
Jogging slowly across the field, I could feel my shoes getting heavier and heavier. Running past the first cone was a relief but then as I kept on running it got very slippery and muddy so it slowed me down a bit ... well it slowed down all the girls I was competing with.

When we got out of the school fence  that was where the disgusting mud was waiting for us. I stood there for a while and had a look at it and in my head I was like “Oh no” but I had no chance but to go through it so I did. Splish splash splish splash the mud went as I was trying to get through it. It was so bad that the mud got up to my knees.
As I ran past Mrs Tuala she was cheering me on by  saying “go Gila” and it made me push myself to run.

Running through the bushes was really hard and scary at the same time because the track was like on the end of a cliff and it was slippery. I had to watch out because there were broken branches lying on the ground and some puddles. Not long after running through the bushes, I could hear Mr Jacobson talking on the microphone. That as a sign to me that I was nearly there and to my amazement I was right. It was a relief getting out of the bushes!

Finally the it was all finish! running past the finish line was the most amazing feeling that day! At the end it wasn’t so bad and I am actually happy that I participated in cross country.

Here is a small slideshow that I have made to tell you what I think of volley.

Hope you enjoy!!

London Olympics Reflection

It has been an awesome season for all athletes around the world who came together and competed againts each other at the London 2012 Olympics which is now over.
The Olympics was an event that many people enjoyed watching and for some it was just fun to watch their country participating in different sports..

One of my favourite teams in the Olympics was the USA women's relay team. I like this team because they strived to succeed and never gave up. They had faith in each other and also worked as a team while running the 4x100 relay race. They ended up winning the 4x100 relay race but also beat the world record and made a new one with the time of 41.79.

I think that they really deserved getting gold medal after all they gave it their best shot , worked as a team and did what they did best, HAVING FUN AND WINNING GOLD!

Up Up And Away!

Last week room 19 had a challenge at who's plane can fly the furtherest. We stared off with picking a partner who we would like to work with. The maximum in a group was four, so I picked three of my other friends , Pesi, Athena and Jaylee. After picking our partners we had decide (as a group) what country we would like to represent, but the choices of countries that we could only pick from had to be a country that is taking part in the Olympics. We ended up picking Australia.

After deciding on our country, we then got our minds back onto task and started making our paper plane. We could style our planes anyhow and so we decided to colour our plane in green and yellow (since we representing Australia).

When we finished colouring it in we went out and tested them. I didn't work as well as we wanted them to, but we had lots of fun mucking around with it. We had all week to try and sort things out with our plane's like figuring out a way of how to make it go far, decorating them etc. ...

It came down to the final day of our challenge, where all the groups come together and compete against each other.
At the end of the day we managed to not come out in first but in third. Although we didn't come first, we had lots of fun decorating, making and testing our plane.

Nature Or Nurture.

What makes a good athlete? I think personally that both natural ability and hard work is the key  to become a great athlete. To become a great athlete it takes determination ,dedication and desire.

Jesse Owens is an awesome example of what it takes to become a great athlete by going against what Hitler had in mind, by competing in the Olympic Games. Jesse didn’t want anything to stop him from doing what he enjoys most. Jesse Owens always strives for what he wants!

My opinion of what YOU can do to become a great athlete is to work hard for what you want and never give up. Being committed to all your trainings is also another way of how to become an awesome athlete. Remember to strive to succeed and GO FOR GOLD!

Making Decision

Our task this week is to write about making decisions and which way we choose them, whether we choose right or wrong.

What have I been up to ?..... Well lately I have been making decisions on my own, but sometimes tempted to making the wrong and not the right choice. Making decisions is one of the hardest things in life and sometimes leads you into astray. Sometimes the choices “I” make affects my family, friends and other people.
At school we have been going to the “Life Education” caravan and we have also been talking about making choices. We watched a few clips that showed us other children (like us)making the right choice.
.Sometimes I am able to make the right choice when I STOP THINK BEFORE I DO. I have some advice to help YOU make the right choice, Pt England’s three D’s ..... Desire Dedication and determination.

Nadia Comaneci Inspires Me

Nadia was born November 12, 1961 and  is a Romanian gymnast, winner of three Olympic gold medals at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. She is also the first female gymnast to be awarded with a perfect score of 10 in an Olympic gymnastic event. She is also the winner of two gold medals at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow.

Nadia Becoming A Star!

Nadia Comaneci was only 6 years of age when she was chosen to attend Bela Karolyi’s experimental gymnastic school after Karolyi (gymnast coach) spotted her with her friend playing cartwheels at the school yard
. Karolyi wanted to teach young kids gymnastic and wanted some students to join her club, and when she saw the two little girls playing cartwheels outside, she stopped and went straight to their school to find the two young girls.

Karolyi knew it was going to be hard to find these two girls that were playing outside and then thought to herself ,“How could I find these two girls?
” She thought. Then she asked the classroom,“ Who here likes gymnastics?" As soon as she said it, two little girls popped up quickly and said,“ Us, us, us, us, us!” Karolyi knew straight away that they were the girls playing outside. Karolyi then asked them if they would like to join her club and they said YES! they were very excited and couldn’t wait until they had their first practise.

As the girls trained with Karolyi everyday, they became better and better. Karolyi said that one of the girls were very promising and the other was Nadia.  Nadia had been training with Karolyi ever since she was 6 years of age . She was one of the first students at the gymnastics school established in OneÈ™ti. Nadia placed 13th in her first romanian national championships in 1969 at the age of just 8.

A year later in 1970 she began competing as a member of her hometown team and became the youngest gymnast ever to win the romanian nationals. 1971 was the first time she participated in her international competition and ended up winning her first all-round title contributing to the team gold.

Nadia comaneci is now known all over the world and is an inspiration for many people. Nadia was the winner of three Olympic gold medals at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal and is the first female gymnast to be awarded with a perfect score of 10 in an Olympic gymnastic event. She is also the winner of two gold medals at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. She is one of the best-known gymnasts in the world.

Nadia inspires me because she was the youngest gymnast ever to compete in the romanian nationals and win! She is also inspiring because even though she was the youngest gymnast, she had lots of faith in herself and she was always going for gold .She ended up being the first gymnast to score the perfect 10.0 . Nadia also strived for succeed and Never gave up.

How Do We Go For Gold!

How do we go for gold ? You can go for gold by striving hard for what you want to achieve. To achieve, you must be committed to what you want to do.
We can go for gold anywhere and anytime for instance at school ,Olympic games and sports such as rugby, Netball, volley and much more. At school all we have to do to go for gold is to put our mind to our work and forget about everything that is happening around you.
Being at an Olympic Games is not much different from being at school, all you have to do is to work hard, give it your best shot and most important have fun!

G:Giving it your best shot.

O:Obtain your dreams.

L:Leads you to success

D:Discipline yourself to achieve what you want.

When Is It The Right Time To Swear??

This week room 19 have been looking at “when is the right time to swear” and so I have written what I think should happen to people who swear in public.

Did you know that there was a meeting for the residents in a small town outside Boston for teens and other adults who swear in public?
Well I think swearing is unnecessary and it is disrespectful to other people who are around you. Most people swear when they are angry, in a argument or just to be cool.

Swearing in public is a very bad habit because it shows and tells people what a bad influence you are.

So from my point of view my advice to you is to “THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK”..

Thanks to Athena and Jaylee for editing my work.

All About Me!

Hi there my name is Vanila Faamausili and I am a year 8 student at Pt England School. I am in room 19 and my teachers name is Mr.Harris.

I really like coming to school because I like to learn new things everyday. My favourite subjects are reading, literacy and maths but out of all of those things my most favourite is reading. The reason why I like reading is because I somehow focus on my work and I understand most of the work I get given. I also love coming to school because I always see my friends who make me laugh and cheer me up when I am feeling down. This is my last year at Pt England and I am going to be really sad when I leave for college next year. The sports that I have joined at this school so far are : Netball, Rugby, Softball and swimming.

At home I like to stay in my room and listen to music. I am not a fan at playing outdoors but sometimes I go out and play cricket with my cousins. My family are really important to me because they encourage me to do things and they take care of me. I have had lots of fun doing things and going places with all my cousins, like going to the movies, beach, Samoa, and family reunions. I have one brother and one sister. I also have three steps but they do not live with us.

Wood Work @ Tamaki College!

Last term The year 8 students at Pt England school walked down to Tamaki college for tech. We have different subjects like woodwork, japanese , and food for each term, and so last term I was in “Woodwork” .What have I learnt at wood so far? well I have learnt lots of new things, like tools that I had never heard about. Last term we at wood , we had to make boxes or a bird house.  I made a box because it was simple to make. We were marked by credit and we all got folders for us to complete. The mark we got  for our project was five and the mark for our paperwork was 15, and so we mostly had to work on our paperwork to get more credits. What I really liked at woodwork last term was getting to make my box and using the new tools that I have never heard or used before.

I am so grateful for having this opportunity to go and explore different subjects and to find out more about those subjects. I also can’t wait for college.

A Freaky Week!!

Four nights ago it started, seeing the shape again now made me shudder.
I slowly crept back under my blanket wishing to not see it again and that I was only dreaming!
The wind was blowing and the trees were swishing. The wind made a creepy noise as it blew
across my room. It was a dark night and I was all alone.
I then slowly got out of my bed and went to have  a look at what the creepy shadow was. The
freaky shadow was just standing there looking into my window. It was just a dark patch shaped
like a man and so I couldn’t see what it really was. As I stood there I felt fear from the bottom of
my toes to the top of my head! I quickly ran back and jumped back onto my bed, hiding under
my blanket. I did not move a muscle. I then said to myself, “maybe if I just went to sleep, my fear
would go away and maybe tomorrow the scary shadow will be gone. I tried to make myself go to
sleep but I just couldn't!
The next night I went to sleep , I went and peeked through my window curtain and looked if that
freaky shadow was gone, but it was not!  I thought that someone has been watching me through
out the whole week. I went back into my bed, wishing that nothing bad will happen to me. All of a
sudden a car coming down the road (who had their flashlights on) shone their light on the dark
shadow. It was hard to believe but to my amazement it was only
just a mailbox.
That night I was really happy to go to sleep knowing that I had nothing to worry about.

First Game For The Season!

Yesterday was a very tiring and exhausting day at Netball!

It was our first game for the season and it started out with bad weather. By the time we got to the netball court it was pouring rain!  Me and my team all went with Mrs va’afusuaga and the first thing we did when we got there was to find shelter to put our bags down. The courts was full of other girls playing and so we had to stick together so we don’t get lost.

We waited a while for our game to start and I was freezing cold by the time our game  started. The team we challenge was St Cuthberts. It was a very close game but unfortunately we lost 6-7. Although we lost we still had fun on the court and that was our first grading game.

I can’t wait until our next grading game next week.I am really looking forward to it!

Vincent Van Gogh

This term we have been studying different artist and Vincent Van Gogh is one of the famous artists I have been learning about.

Vincent Van Gogh was a son of a pastor who was brought up in a religious country. Before Van Gogh became a painter he was working unsuccessfully as a clerk in a book store, an art salesman, and a preacher in the Borinage. It was about 1860 and 1880 when Van Gogh then decided to become an artist. Van Gogh's life was very sad, He suffered from Mental illness and did lots of bad things to him self, He even cut off his own ear and sended it to some random girl .Van Gogh did lots of self portrates of himself

. He only sold one painting when he was alive, worth only around about 500 dollars.
Van Gogh was only famous after he died by shooting himself with a shotgun.

Alexander Dale Cardiac Arrest

Our class has been learning about a man who has died at a very young age . His name was Alexander Dale Oen, his death was highly unexpected as he was 26 years old, and a fit man. The cause of his death was a cardiac arrest. A cardiac arrest is the failure of the pumping of the heart. Alexander Dale was a champion swimmer and so his death was very shocking to hear about.

Whats The Drink For Me?

Do you drink hot drinks?? Coffee? Tea?

What about on hot days? Softdrinks? Water?

Have you ever tasted coffee? … Well I have and I reckon it is not nice! I see lots of people drink it, some people drink coffee to stay awake. Coffee are made in lots of different ways. Some coffees are made from machines and some are made at home. There is no difference about where the coffees are made.

..Tea is kind of nice but I am not a real fan of it. I have tea on a cold day when there is no hot choclate, but I always prefer Hot choclate.

What drink would you like to have on a nice hot sunny day?... well for me I like to have soft drinks. Soft drinks are very unhealthy and contains lots of sugar in it, but it is very yummy!.

The one and only drink we ALL should be drinking is water. It is the healthiest drink made.

Ben Carson

Guess what!,
yesterday the year 5 - 8 students of Pt England school went to the "Telstra Clear Stadium" in Manukau to see Dr Ben Carson.

Ben Carson was one of the first doctors to separate a pair of Siamese twins successfully. A 70 member surgical team and Dr Ben Carson worked hard for 22 hours to complete the operation.
At the end the twins were successfully separate. Dr Ben Carson is now

one of the worlds famous doctors.
So around 10.30 am our buses started to arrive to take us to Manukau. In each buss there had to be two classes in each buss so that we could all try to fit in. There were 4 buses but we all couldn't fit in. We were the last class and all the buses were full. Mrs Nua ( our Team leader) had to then organize for another buss. It was so not cool waiting outside in front of our school for our buss to arrive.

Finally the bus arrived and we all hoped on and off we went. It was not long before we got there. The stadium was kind of big and we saw lots of other kids from different schools there.
We all then started to walk in the stadium and i looked around and it was full of students from other schools and some adults.

When we were all seated the show finally started a man walked onto the stage and introduce himself. He then told us a little bit about him and how he loved to read bo
oks, It was so funny when he was explaining a story about him when he was little.

Then it was time to see "Dr Ben Carson" and he walked onto the stage and everyone was clapping!.. he told us all about his life. But it was very amazing how he told his story and how reading books made him become the surgeon that
he is now. He then told us about the surgery he did on the two twins. That was cool as well.

After Ben Carson told us about himself we the show ended with the duffy song and everybody was singing. It was then time to leave and we all made our way outside. We were told that when we go out side that we have grab a up and go and a fruit when we leave.
We sat out side the stadium and waited for our buss, it then soon arrived and off we went back to school.

What did I think of the show?? well I think that it is amazing that reading books can really change your life and it was awesome to see Ben Carson for real!!

Netball Session With Liz!

What an awesome and exhausting afternoon we had on Thursday playing netball with Liz!

Straight after morning tea break, room 19 headed over to the netball courts to have a one hour session playing and learning netball skills. We had an instructor "Liz", she was one of the netball experts from AMI netball stadium.

As soon as we got there our coach "Liz" introduced her self to us and then we were split-ed up into 4 groups of six. We all had to line up facing our partners and we had to practice our chest passes and overhead passes.

After that drill, we then did this other drill where we had to run and jump over the jack while the other people on the other side throw the ball to you while your jumping over the jack.

When we finished the "Jumping over the jack" drill, we then got to play a game of netball, it was a really cool game. At the end we ended up winning! yaay!!

I really enjoyed playing netball with my class and I cant wait until next week for our next session with Liz!

This term , in maths we are learning about statistics . As part of our learning we are examining data related to our health.
The first part of our examination we collect data ( information ) about the food we ate for one week (2/2 to 9/2 ).
The graph (or chart) shows how much I ate from six major food groups.
