Alien Masks

This years at Pt England school we have been studying "OUTTA THIS WORLD" and so the year 7 students in room 19 have been designing aliens.

The first thing we did was we designed our own aliens using our imaginations. When we have finished designing our aliens on a piece of paper we then got the materials that we needed to make it The things that we needed was glue and newspaper. When we had all the materials we needed we started to make our alien.

To get the shape of the alien we had to scrunch up newspaper and put them all together to make a big round head. Later on after we had made the aliens head shape we ripped the left over newspaper into strips so that we could dip it into the glue and sicked it onto the alien. The reason why we did this was so that we can make our alien head nice and round with no massive bumps on it. After we added the strips of newspaper on we then left it outside for the day to dry. The next day I got my alien and i started to paint it. The colour i choose was green because my favourite colour was green. My alien had anttennas so i made my aliens antennas out of foil and sticked them on but i coloured the antennas black .It took me a phew days to complete it nut i managed to get it done.

It was cool making my alien mask because it was fun and we got dirty as well.

Solar System Questions

In room 19 our teacher Mr Harris gave all of us students questions about the solar system. Hope this information has helped you know a little bit about Venus and Mars

Why is Venus the brightest object in the sky besides the sun and the moon? Does Mars have two moons? why?

Yes, Venus is one of the brightest objects in the night sky. Venus is
so bright because its thick clouds reflect most of the sunlight that
reaches it (about 70%) back into space, and because it is the closest
planet to Earth. Venus can often be seen within a few hours after
sunset or before sunrise as the brightest object in the sky (other
than the moon). It looks like a very bright star. Venus is the
brightest planet in the solar system.

Yes, Mars has two small moons named Phobos and Deimos. Their names
mean fear and panic in Latin. Phobos and Deimos are not round like our
moon. They are much smaller and have irregular shapes. Phobos is 13.8
miles (22.2 km) across and Deimos is only 7.8 miles (12.6 km) across.
Both moons are covered with craters and are made of rock and iron. It
is possible that Phobos and Deimos were two asteroids which were
captured by the gravity of Mars.

My Dream "Outta This World" Holiday.

‘My dream Outta This World Holiday.’
‘Bring........’ screamed the alarm. I tried to ignore it. I wanted to stay in my dream. My dream Outta This World’ holiday.

When I woke up, I realised that I was not at home. I started to wonder around to see what planet I was in. It was really strange waking up in a totally different planet! the weather was not that hot. As I was wondering around I saw one of my friends and so I ran over to her and asked “Do you know what planet we are in? And she said we are in Venus. I was thinking and thinking and then I asked my friend “I thought Venus will be hotter, because it is closer to the sun than Mercury!

I really did not know where I was then, but I just kept on wondering around. I noticed that I was really far from home and then suddenly a loud noise rang, Then i woke up and I thought to myself thank Goodness I am at home! .

Mercury, venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto
My very easy method just speeds up new planets.

Thanks to Helen for checking my work.

Where The Heck Is Wellsford...?

Different Auckland town centers have adopted Rugby teams from countries that qualified for the World Cup.
I found out information about :
The location in Auckland;
Something special about this place;
A 'potted' history of the place;
If it has it's own symbol of some sort.
(If we couldn't find a symbol we chose a picture that told more about the place).

Force
Your prediction of what nation will win the 2011 World cup: All blacks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Task One – “Where The Heck IS Wellsford”
Wellsford is in the northern North Island of New Zealand.

The special thing about this town is that the Wellsford Golf Club is popular among the locals and also houses squash courts.

In early 1860’s English settlers arrived establishing themselves at Port Albert on the Kai para Coast about 10 kilometers west of Wellsford. These settlers called themselves The Albertlanders, after prince Albert, queen Victoria’s consort. They were a “breakaway group from the Anglican Church looking for a new world. However not many of the settlers arrived at Port Albert and the ones who did found it difficult to make a living. The majority of the Albertlanders moved inland, to more fertile areas in the region. As a result, Wellsford was founded

This is a picture that shows that Wellsford has lots of cows and some of them even block up the road!!!.

To find out more information about Wellsford and about their cows go to this website written below.

"If...."

“IF..........” If I had magical powers,
I’ll use them to to control people’s minds.

If I had magical powers
I’ll use it to find things of mine. If I had magical powers I”ll use it to help me fly. If I had magical powers I’ll fly up high into the sky. If I had magical powers
I will be the happiest person in the world.
If I had magical powers I will buy all the pearls. If I had magical powers I will have my hair curled. If I had magical powers I will help grow all the flowers.

To Infinity and Beyond

To infinity and beyond .

Glen Martin invented the ‘the Martin jet packs’. The martin jet pack could go places where helicopters couldn’t go like between cliffs and buildings because the jet pack doesn't have big blades like a helicopter. The martin jet pack that he invented is controlled by a remote and is also powerfull. First he took his invention down to Ashburton. He then got interviewed and got mocked by the U.S media and he didn’t like it.Then he said to them ‘we will first put a dummy in the pilots seat to test it’ and the machine flew 5,000 feet high then dropped back down to 2,000 feet. After that he flew it himself and survived. The Martin jet pack is the world’s first particle jet pack.

My reflection

Reflection

Looking Back-Looking Forward .

The things that I liked the most at school last term was getting my new net book and learning new things mostly the things that I didn't know. I also liked camp that we had with the year 8’s. I liked going to technology .Last term i was in food tech. Also last term I joined softball .It was awesome ! we came second and lost to Tamaki Intermediate only by one point .

The things that i dislike last Term was having to change class rooms and having to be mixed up with the year 8’s but its alright .The other thing that i dislike last term was the work that we had to do because it was Intermediate work and it was very hard .

This Term it was cool because we learned some more interesting things and it was awesome .we had a new topic and it was bigger, better, faster, and stronger. This term I hope that things will be better than last term . I wish that i will learn heaps more interesting stuff .

How to put up a tent

Materials: 1 hammer Tent (3x people ) ‘Fly’(1x) Pegs(11x) poles (3x) Ropes (8x) Method: 1 .Find a clear, level ,grassed area away from over hanging branches trees. 2. Open the bag and place the base flatly on the ground. 3.When lying there flatly get out the pegs to hold down the corners of the tent so that the tent does not fly away. 4.The next thing you will do is to get the poles out and stick them together. When you have stuck them together there should be all together two black long ones and one short one. 5.After that you get the one long pole and stick one half on one the ground and stick the other side opposite side from where the other pole is. 6.When it is opposite each other then you will find some clips on the tent and you have connect those clips onto the poles so that they stick together. That is also what you to do with the other pole on the other side and then on top of the tent is two strings and then when you have finished tie the two poles together . 7.Next thing to do is to get the fly (witch is the cover)and put it on top of the tent to make sure that the rain does not fall on you when you are sleeping. 8.When the fly is on then you get the strings that is on the fly and pull it down so that it can stay down. When you have done that make sure that you you get it in the middle or else you will end up with e cricket tent! so make sure that it is in the middle. 9. After you have pegged the strings down in front of the tent where you go in is a hole witch is under the front cover and that is where you put the last pole through . 10.Make sure that you have pegged the front strings and they are in a angle so that it tight ! 11.When you are finished then you are all done and your tent is all ready for camp!!!!!!

My Thoughts About Camp

Guess what !!!!!,Next week on Monday our Team 5 camp is starting and I am really looking forward to it. Our camp this year is called ‘Camp Take Charge.’ I am really looking forward to it because we did really fun activities last year. I am also excited because I am going to be there with my friends and that will be much more exciting!

Yesterday we had our first meeting and that meeting was cool because that’s when we were told what groups we were in .I wish that my friends were in my group with me.

Yesterday when we got to know what groups we are in, the next thing we did was this one activity and it was quite hard. It was hard because there were like thirty of us in a group and the game was that you have to get your whole team across the hall without touching the ground ,even if one person falls off the whole team has to start again. Our team did good but we left one person behind and as we were trying to go back we were called back to sit down.

Our team leaders Helen and Charm really motivated us and so we did good except for the one person we left behind! The best group of all was the ‘PARTICIPATORZ!’ yes that’s my group. There were five other groups.I reckon the teachers picked that game so we know how to participate together as a team.
