Not So Bad After All

BAAAM!! went the clapper and off we went!
Jogging slowly across the field, I could feel my shoes getting heavier and heavier. Running past the first cone was a relief but then as I kept on running it got very slippery and muddy so it slowed me down a bit ... well it slowed down all the girls I was competing with.

When we got out of the school fence  that was where the disgusting mud was waiting for us. I stood there for a while and had a look at it and in my head I was like “Oh no” but I had no chance but to go through it so I did. Splish splash splish splash the mud went as I was trying to get through it. It was so bad that the mud got up to my knees.
As I ran past Mrs Tuala she was cheering me on by  saying “go Gila” and it made me push myself to run.

Running through the bushes was really hard and scary at the same time because the track was like on the end of a cliff and it was slippery. I had to watch out because there were broken branches lying on the ground and some puddles. Not long after running through the bushes, I could hear Mr Jacobson talking on the microphone. That as a sign to me that I was nearly there and to my amazement I was right. It was a relief getting out of the bushes!

Finally the it was all finish! running past the finish line was the most amazing feeling that day! At the end it wasn’t so bad and I am actually happy that I participated in cross country.

Hope you enjoy!!

London Olympics Reflection

It has been an awesome season for all athletes around the world who came together and competed againts each other at the London 2012 Olympics which is now over.
The Olympics was an event that many people enjoyed watching and for some it was just fun to watch their country participating in different sports..

One of my favourite teams in the Olympics was the USA women's relay team. I like this team because they strived to succeed and never gave up. They had faith in each other and also worked as a team while running the 4x100 relay race. They ended up winning the 4x100 relay race but also beat the world record and made a new one with the time of 41.79.

I think that they really deserved getting gold medal after all they gave it their best shot , worked as a team and did what they did best, HAVING FUN AND WINNING GOLD!

Up Up And Away!

Last week room 19 had a challenge at who's plane can fly the furtherest. We stared off with picking a partner who we would like to work with. The maximum in a group was four, so I picked three of my other friends , Pesi, Athena and Jaylee. After picking our partners we had decide (as a group) what country we would like to represent, but the choices of countries that we could only pick from had to be a country that is taking part in the Olympics. We ended up picking Australia.

After deciding on our country, we then got our minds back onto task and started making our paper plane. We could style our planes anyhow and so we decided to colour our plane in green and yellow (since we representing Australia).

When we finished colouring it in we went out and tested them. I didn't work as well as we wanted them to, but we had lots of fun mucking around with it. We had all week to try and sort things out with our plane's like figuring out a way of how to make it go far, decorating them etc. ...

It came down to the final day of our challenge, where all the groups come together and compete against each other.
At the end of the day we managed to not come out in first but in third. Although we didn't come first, we had lots of fun decorating, making and testing our plane.

Nature Or Nurture.

What makes a good athlete? I think personally that both natural ability and hard work is the key  to become a great athlete. To become a great athlete it takes determination ,dedication and desire.

Jesse Owens is an awesome example of what it takes to become a great athlete by going against what Hitler had in mind, by competing in the Olympic Games. Jesse didn’t want anything to stop him from doing what he enjoys most. Jesse Owens always strives for what he wants!

My opinion of what YOU can do to become a great athlete is to work hard for what you want and never give up. Being committed to all your trainings is also another way of how to become an awesome athlete. Remember to strive to succeed and GO FOR GOLD!
